Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini told her she had “a voice heard once in a hundred years.” Her dramatic open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday 1939, after she was banned from singing in Washington’s Constitution Hall, was delivered to more than 75,000 listeners. In 1955 she became the first African American to sing at the Metropolitan Opera.

RCA/Sony Classical is a proud keeper of Marian Anderson’s almost entire recorded catalogue, which will now be presented for the first time in a comprehensive remastered 15-CD plus book edition, with 57 recordings for first time on CD, 43 recordings as first authorized releases transferred from the original masters, numerous photos from the Marian Anderson Collection at PennUniversity and facsimiles, delivering the ultimate reference guide to Marian Anderson’s legacy.
